As I take on the tasks of District Governor for 27-E2, I look back on my
very first year as a Lion and
recall how proud I was to be a part of this group of men and women who
had made this commitment
to service. It was a large and active club. But membership has
diminished both through the passing
of the elders of the club and by a lack of retaining some members and
encouraging new.
In the coming year my focus will be on recruitment and retention of
Lions. In order to have a good
retention program, it is important to keep club members informed and
involved. I will encourage all
members to support smaller clubs and not ignore them. Clubs within E-2
are involved in great things
and it is important to acknowledge these works and encourage others to
embrace that miracle of service.
When clubs are struggling, it will be important to work with them to
identify problems and work
towards positive outcomes and solutions. Problems are easy, solutions
are hard. It will be my
goal to assist clubs in resolving problems as soon as possible so they
can move forward with the good
works that are the hallmark of Lions.
I
will support Lions clubs to:
-
Encourage clubs to develop an orientation program for new members.
This would help
new members better understand what being a Lion means and enable
them to begin the
miracle of service
-
Encourage each club to develop a strategic plan for each new year.
This would
enable clubs to establish goals, develop a budget for the year,
prioritize projects/activities
and establish a means for sharing information with fellow Lions who
are all a part of the miracle of service.
-
Encourage clubs to get new members involved immediately in club
activities. By
engaging new members in club projects they will come to understand
the miracle of service.
-
Encourage clubs to address “issues”, both positive and negative and
strive for outcomes that
represent the miracle of service.
-
Encourage clubs to support a Lion when they leave a club. Have an
exit interview or a
follow up meeting with that Lion and try to understand the reasons
for the loss. This can
only strengthen the club as they learn from others experiences.
This will benefit the miracle
of service that is the centerpiece of all Lionism.
In this year of my miracle of service to Lions, I will take on
the task of working with clubs to
nourish and replenish their clubs. It looks to be a difficult year for
all of us and our service to
our communities will be in great demand. But we can’t do it without the
dedicated men and
women in their yellow vests. Our clubs need to be strong and healthy
for miracles to happen.
This is my vision for the year, to encourage current members and to
engage the new. I look
forward to working with all the clubs in 27 E2 as we move forward in the
coming year of Lionism.
