MERLO The following is a synopsis of the proposed activity of the District MERLO team for the lionistic year, 2005-2006. Included in the report of each of the individual chairmen is the expressed goals of the District Governor, Wilson Mills.
LEADERSHIPChairman, PDG John Schwab, Sr.
Goals – To train all club officers, region and zone chairmen - to encourage all clubs to implement the president’s leadership programs and the District Governor’s goals
What is to be done? - Hold a day, this fall, for officers, region and zone chairman training - In April 2006, officers training session - Promote Leadership Training in February - Promote Midwinter Conference attendance
How will it be accomplished? - DG Newsletter, midwinter conference pamphlet, Healthy club tool box, MD 27 Officers Training Manual and MD27-MERLO Resources
When will this be done? Region & Zone Chairman Training by Sept 1, 2005 - Officers Training by October 2005 - Spring Officers training in 2006
LEADERSHIP GOALS OF THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
- Promote attendance at the Leadership Workshop on October 29, 2005 - Asking each zone chair to identify 3 potential leaders in their zone so that special assistance can be given to help develop their skills - Send a Lion for the District to the Senior Leadership Forum in 2006 - Send a minimum of 6 Lions from District to Training Session in February
EXTENSIONChairman, PDG Ron Husby

EXTENSION GOALS OF THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
- Replace the 3 clubs lost in 2004-2005 - Train a minimum of 1 Lion per region as a Guiding Lion - Give some thought to the development of Leo Clubs in the District

ORIENTATION GOALS OF THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
- Continue to emphasize that every new member must receive an orientation PRIOR to being asked to join.
MEMBERSHIPChairman, PID Ronald Duffe
Goals - Increase the membership in each club by approximately 5% - Stress the importance of bring in, as members, the female gender - Ask Lions to concentrate on bringing in new members who are younger
How will this be accomplished? - Attend all zone meetings early in the year and stress the importance to club officers in attendance - Ask for invitation to club to present program for those not attending the zone meetings
What is to be done? - Re-institute the Proud Lion/Proud Sponsor program - Re-institute the ASK program - Challenge all members who have been Lions for over 20 years to sponsor one more Lion this year
MEMBERSHIP GOALS OF THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
- As a minimum objective have a net gain of 1 new member per club - Overall emphasis needs to focus on encouraging clubs to add at least one more female member - Reistall and promote the Proud Lion/Proud Sponsor Award

Goals - Reduce the number of drops in each club by 20% - Encourage all clubs to have an annual planning meeting/retreat - Encourage all clubs to implement the “President’s Retention Program”
How is this to be done? - Hold a retreat training session for region and zone chairmen - Monitor club membership on a monthly basis - Use Past records and club analyses - Promote club retreats and the Presidents Retention plan at Zone meetings and training sessions - Utilize the healthy club tool box and MERLO Resources
RETENTION GOALS OF THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
- Encourage each club to conduct a retreat/annual planning session - Using a membership history, identify clubs that would benefit from the healthy club toolbox |
